// Latigo Canyon Malibu, CA//

The first time I drove Latigo Canyon I started off PCH and headed up the mountain. I had heard from other drivers that this was a great road, but for the first several miles I was very dissapointed. The southern section (blue on map) has quite a few houses and driveways on either side, a bad situation for driving fast.
I resigned myself to a lesiurely pace up the hill until all of a sudden the houses ended and there was nothing but a very technical, tight road with corners one after another after another. If high speed is your game this is the wrong road, and you better have good tires.
There are some things to watch for. Just after you break over the ridge in the north-bound direction you will come across several more houses and driveways, and again at the northern end when Latigo ends at Kanan Dume Rd. In the residential areas watch for parked cars and people out jogging or walking their dogs. I drove this road on a saturday afternoon and didn’t have one car block me, but did pass a few going the other way and a couple of bikes.

Check out this video of an extremely fast Latigo run from Victor and T from Moto Club Santa Monica

Smoking Mole and I had a chance to attend the Skyy Spirits World Class Whiskey Tasting Event at Los Angeles’ own whiskey bar, Seven Grand. Here’s a short clip of the event.

// Beverly Hills’ bar210 & Plush//

What is this you ask? The old Trader Vic’s space, part of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, has switched over to bar210 (pronounced two-one-oh) and plush, a dual lounge and nightclub with small plates controlled by Top Cheffer and ex-Bazaar alum, Marcel Vigneron. Apparently, plush is Beverly Hills’ only nightclub and it will be open 10PM to 2AM Thursday through Saturday, while bar210 will be open Monday through Saturday from 5PM until 2AM. When Eater queried Marcel the molecular master (who was only hired last Wednesday) what what we should expect on the food end, he described the menu as “Modern Global Tastings” with the majority of the menu “comprised of moderately priced small plates that can be eaten without silver and are meant to be shared.”

I’ll have a more in depth review of the new spot tomorrow after I enjoy tonight.

Sample menu items, right this way. »

Wait for a private opening Friday night, with the public debut on Saturday.
