Chace Crawford from “Gossip Girl” was arrested in Plano, Texas for possession of marijuana … cops confirm

We’re told Crawford has bonded out of jail.

Crawford was arrested just after midnight this morning for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces. The charge is a misdemeanor.

Crawford was busted in the parking lot of Ringo’s Pub.

Sources say Crawford was in a car with a friend when he was busted and cops found one unlit joint.

12 Must See Films From Cannes 2010

For all of the banter that this year’s Festival de Cannes was going to be a lackluster one, it was not at all difficult to come up with a dozen new films to spotlight as “Must sees” for in the coming year, in fact there are several bonus titles as well.

Cannes Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux commented that with the absence of such high profile titles as “The Tree of Life” by Terrance Malick (the film was reportedly not complete in time for the festival), that 2011 looked to be a banner year. But, it can be argued that this year’s crop of a dozen must sees are on par with last year’s list.

Still, there was an absence of a much anticipated and focus of extreme curiosity titles such as Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist,” which produced about as much talk ahead of its world premiere in Cannes last year as afterward. A competition director exclaiming, “I’m the best director in the world” - even if taken out of context - is bound to create headlines and interest (that poster was quite something too!)

But, wrapping up our 2010 coverage, indieWIRE considered this year’s lineup and picked out 12 new films that we feel will continue to make headlines, join the awards race later in the year and - for those not yet picked up - find U.S. distribution.

One caveat to keep in mind. There were other titles that played this year’s Cannes and had their world premieres elsewhere, so they’re not included in this list. Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine” (Sundance 2010) still ranks in the pinnacle of new fest offerings - so far - and there were a few others as well.

Little is known of the newcomer aside from the facts that she’s Jason Statham’s girlfriend, she looks fantastic in garters, and she has “no acting experience.” But is the latter really true, or even all that important?

Avenged Sevenfold Announce New Album

Avenged Sevenfold have announced that their fifth album, Nightmare, will be released July 27 on Warner Bros. The disc’s first single, also titled “Nightmare,” will be released tomorrow on radio and online. You can preview the song here on the band’s website.

Nightmare was produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem), mixed by Andy Wallace and is the group’s first album since the passing of drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan last December. Drumming duties for the record, and the band’s upcoming tour, have been taken over by Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy, who was Sullivan’s favorite drummer, and has been added to the line-up in tribute.

The band posted a statement in February about the addition of Portnoy. “We asked Jimmy’s all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted. It’s comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev’s abilities.”

As we previously told you, the band will be co-headlining the first annual Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival with Disturbed this summer. We’re pretty sure dudes with complicated septum piercings are psyched.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge tossed out a suit against Variety from an indie-film producer who claimed the trade duped him into buying awards advertising before slamming his movie.

Variety used the front page of its print edition to trumpet the court victory over “Iron Cross” filmmaker Joshua Newton, who was ordered by the judge to pay the paper’s legal fees.

“We are extremely pleased with the judge’s ruling,” wrote Variety president Neil Stiles. “It is a shame that a filmmaker saw fit to use the law in this way, but good sense and justice prevailed. We hope that this decision sends a clear message against meritless lawsuits being filed against Variety, (parent company) Reed Elsevier or any other news organization.”

The unreleased movie everyone is talking about. There’s so much controversy surrounding this movie due to the Variety lawsuit, in which Variety screwed up a $400,000 ad deal/Oscars campaign by deliberately destroying the movie with a scathing review which got published in Variety DURING the campaign. I guess this kind of thing goes on in Hollywood all the time. But to deliberately destroy what looks to be a good flick about a true Holocaust story seems heartless and flat-out mean. This is why I am linking to their official YouTube channel. It deserves a chance to be seen. From what I hear, the film doesn’t have distribution yet so hopefully people can see past the petty bullshit and give Roy Scheider an honor by releasing it.

TMZ broke the story that the judge has ordered LiLo to show proof next Thursday that she had completed 13 alcohol ed classes, but she’s only completed nine.

Simple math — If Lindsay doesn’t complete at least four more classes, she’s in violation of probation and the judge has made it clear … Lindsay will go to jail.

Sources say Lindsay — who is in NYC right now — has made it clear she’s flying to France for the film festival. We’re told she’s going to publicize her movie about Linda Lovelace.

I’m told Lindsay will fly from NYC to L.A. today, get her stuff and then head off to France tomorrow. A lot of flying … but no alcohol ed.

And there’s this … if Lindsay doesn’t complete the required number of classes and doesn’t show up in court next Wed., it’s standard operating procedure for the judge to issue a warrant for her arrest.

Weinsteins to Announce Miramax Recovery at Cannes

Although Harvey Weinstein denies the report, Deadline.com claims that a deal is done for the Weinstein brothers to finally recover their old distribution company, Miramax, from Disney and will announce the purchase at Cannes in order to “make a big publicity splash.” It’s been a little over three months since we heard the Weinsteins were even interested in re-acquiring the name and its film library, having been forced out of the company back in 2005, and while it was easily assumed the sale would and should go through, such negotiations do take time.

In fact, Harvey’s people say the negotiations are still going on (involving three boardrooms of people) and imply they won’t be finished that soon. Deadline stands by the information they’ve received, though, including that the price of the indie division was settled at “around $650 million.” This figure is also being contested, apparently, as the buyers are said to be claiming the cost will be under $625 million while Disney’s number is allegedly close to $700 million.

Whatever the exact amount, the important thing is that Harvey and Bob Weinstein will have back their original brand, which is especially sweet since Miramax was named after the boys’ parents, Miriam and Max. And since their Weinstein Co. has never seen the success that Miramax had, especially while owned by the Mouse House, it may help them get their groove back. As for whether John Q. Movielover will benefit from this deal, I honestly doubt we’ll be seeing much different from the guys except for that old cityscape logo placed ahead of their films.

Are you glad the Weinsteins are in charge of Miramax again, or would all that money have been better spent on (new) product rather than brand?

Before she was semi-famous for starring in E!’s reality show Pretty Wild, Alexis Neiers was semi-famous for breaking into the homes of the actually famous. Today, she pled no contest and was sentenced to 180 days in jail for stealing $600,000 worth of personal belongings from actor Orlando Bloom. Hope that framed Elizabethtown call sheet was worth it, Alexis!
